The specialist will safeguard the company’s financial integrity by delivering strategic financial insights, ensure accurate and compliant profit and loss (P&L) reporting, and enhance governance over revenue streams, receivables, settlement processes, and accounting policies. Reporting to the Head of Section, Business Assurance, this position plays a critical role in minimizing financial risks, enhancing operational efficiencies, and supporting business strategies through expert analysis and policy development.
The Day-To-Day Activities
- Revenue & P&L Assurance
- Ensure end-to-end assurance over P&L reporting by validating revenue completeness and verifying cost accuracy. Identify trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities in revenue and cost structures specific to telecom operations (e.g., interconnect fees, roaming charges, subscription-based revenues) and provide assurance-driven insights to strengthen financial reliability. Support regulatory-related reporting by ensuring accuracy, audit-readiness, and compliance with industry requirements including Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
- Revenue Integrity & Compliance
- Develop and implement strategies to safeguard revenue integrity, including compliance with MFRS 15 and internal financial governance policies. Monitors revenue leakage, quantifies financial impacts, and implements assurance measures to safeguard revenue and improve collection accuracy while recommending preventive controls to minimize disputes, inconsistencies, and misstatements.
- Settlement Arrangements
- Manage settlement processes with partners, carriers, and vendors, including negotiation support, dispute resolution, and accurate accounting of inter-operator settlements. Ensure timely recording in financial systems.
- Accounting Policies and Controls
- Design, update, and enforce policies for telecom revenue and receivable management. Establish strong control frameworks to prevent errors, fraud, system gaps, and non-compliance, including governance aligned with SOX-equivalent internal control requirements. Conduct audits, control testing, risk assessments, and post-implementation reviews to evaluate policy effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Error Minimization Strategies
- Formulate and deploy procedures to reduce accounting errors, such as automated reconciliation tools, process standardization, and cross-functional training guidelines. Collaborate with IT and operations to integrate controls into systems.
- Financial Strategy and Reporting
- Offer insights on P&L impacts from business initiatives (e.g., new product launches, market expansions). Prepare detailed analysis reports for senior leadership, highlighting metrics like revenue breakdown by segment, gross margins, product performance, impact of new products and pricing, and subscriber movements. Review commercial agreements and schedules for financial implications and P&L alignment.
- Receivables Analysis
- Perform in-depth analysis of accounts receivable, including aging reviews, bad debt provisioning, and collection efficiency. Identify performance trends, forecast cash inflows, and recommend strategies to improve recovery rates and reduce days sales outstanding (DSO), integrating into revenue and P&L optimization.
- Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to accounting standards, regulatory guidelines, and internal assurance frameworks. Identify emerging risks in revenue, receivables, settlement, and cost areas and develop mitigation strategies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Operations, Legal, Sales, and Finance teams to align financial policies with business objectives, without supervisory duties.
- Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements (e.g., 5G revenue models), and best practices in financial controls to enhance P&L management.
